Jeffrey J. Berends

Senior Consultant (Denver)

Jeff Berends is a member of the actuarial consulting team for October Three.  A long time believer in the concept that technology can greatly enhance and enable the effective design and delivery of defined benefit plan systems, much of his focus over the past decade has been on creating technology platforms that have proven out this belief, and in working with a wide variety of “trusted advisor” networks.  Jeff is a key facilitator in fostering business relationships with many of our third party distribution channels.

Prior to joining October Three, Jeff spent the bulk of his career designing and implementing income deferral and wealth accumulation programs geared toward the specialized needs of professional service firm owners and their employees.  During the 1980s and 1990s, he founded and operated one of the most well-respected actuarial firms in the Rocky Mountain Region.  Jeff joined CCA Strategies in 2003 and became Executive Vice President of CCA Small Business Group where he was co-inventor of the MaxPlans technology platform, and was chiefly responsible for execution of the MaxPlans strategy.  After CCA Strategies’ acquisition by JPMorgan in 2006 Jeff went on to serve as Vice President and national head of sales for their group specializing in the professional service firm market.
Jeff is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA), a member of the American Society of Pension Professionals and Actuaries (MSPA), and an Enrolled Actuary (EA) under ERISA.  He received his B.S. in mathematics, actuarial science and economics from the University of Nebraska.
