Meet The Team

Matthew Ruhl is a member of the Pension Administration Team and is based remotely in the Ann Arbor area of Michigan. Matthew is a seasoned pension administration consultant with over 17 years of experience working in defined benefit plans. Before joining October Three, he was an Actuarial Analyst for Aon, specializing in plan valuations, compliance, plan administration, and process optimization.

Matthew received his bachelor’s degree with dual majors in Mathematics and Economics. He also earned a scholarship to play baseball while he was earning his degree from Hillsdale College. Originally intended to pursue a career in professional golf management and golf course architecture, he made a shift in 2007 to utilize his math and spreadsheet skills as an actuarial analyst. He was attracted to October Three because of its forward-thinking strategies and innovative approach to defined benefit plans, along with their entrepreneurial spirit and culture. The smaller size of the firm, relative to Aon, and the more collaborative work environment were a perfect fit for Matthew.

Outside of pension consulting, Matthew is a dedicated father of three kids. He is passionate about youth sports and coaches all three of his kids’ sports teams. He is the Varsity Golf Coach at Clinton High School in Michigan, where his son is captain of the team. He is also the pitching coach and instructor for the Adrian Lookouts Organization where his other son has been a standout baseball player. Matthew also coaches his daughter’s basketball and softball teams. His wife coaches his daughter’s travel volleyball team year-round as well. If he is not actively working for O3, you will find Matt on a golf course or ball diamond coaching a group of kids. For the few minutes he does get to himself, Matthew loves to play golf, go bowling, or relax and play some video games with his wife.
